Troubleshooting wizard

Home  Previous  Next

The troubleshooting wizard is designed to perform automatic system analysis, detect errors and anomalies that can be fixed, and fix them. The troubleshooting wizard is in many ways similar to the AVZ System Restore function. Its principal difference from System Restore is that it searches for problems automatically (in the case of System Restore, the user has to decide which restoration functions to use) and fixes problems in a more precise and flexible manner.

Click "Troubleshooting wizard" on the "File" menu to open dialog box.

To start using the wizard, select the issuetype. Supportedissue types are as follows:

"System issues”. These include all kinds of registry errors or keys created or modified by malware to disrupt or restrict system functionality.
“Browser tweaks and settings”. The wizard analyzes browser settings, looks for dangerous settings (such as permission to load ActiveX without asking the user), or suggests changes to settings in order to improve browser safety.
“Privacy”. The wizard runs a system cleanup to remove traces of user activities (temporary files, cookies, browser cache and logs, all kinds of protocols).
“System Cleanup”. This category is available in AVZ starting with version 4.32. Its purpose is to locate and remove all kinds of trash: temporary files, protocols, memory dumps, caches. The wizard supports all modern browsers: Internet Explorer, FireFox, Google Chrome, and Safari.

After selecting theissue type, proceed to select the problem danger level. The wizard supports three danger levels: ranging from minor issues to most dangerous issues. Essentially, the danger level is the triggering threshold of the analyzer.

After selecting the danger level, click “Start” and wait for analysis to be completed (the progress indicator in the lower part of the window shows how the process progresses). Issues detected and recommended operations are shown in the form of a list where you can select one or several items. To fix issues, select one or several items on the list and click “Fix selected issues”.

Fixing some settings can adversely affect system performance. For this eventuality, the troubleshooting wizard has a data backup function that enables you to undo changes. To undo changes, select the issue type and proceed to the “Undo changes” tab. This tab shows the undo list. To undo changes, select one or several items and click “Undo selected changes”.

Note: Only registry changes can be undone. Deletion of files (such as cookies or browser caches) cannot be undone.

Note: Rollback system stores changes database in the BackUp folder. If this folder is read-only, the troubleshooting wizard will work successfully, but data for undoing changes will not be stored. When using the troubleshooting wizard to remove private data, also remember to delete the database of the changes rollback system.
